Oberlin College Privacy and Confidentiality of Personal Health Information
Privacy is a priority of Oberlin College (the "college"). Even prior to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA") and its implementing regulations, the college sought to protect the confidentiality of all health information to which it had any access.
The college sponsors the Oberlin College Health Plan for Faculty and Staff, (referred to herein as the "plan"). The plan has certain protected health information ("PHI"), which generally is information relating to an individual's eligibility for health care and payment for the provision of health care where the health information identifies the individual or it is reasonable to believe information can be used to identify the individual.
In the course of administering the plan, select individuals of the college may have access to PHI. The college wants to assure you that those individuals with access to PHI will use and/or disclose that information only as permitted under HIPAA regulations, and only as necessary. For more information regarding when PHI is permitted to be used or disclosed, please refer to the HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices in the link below.
