Music Theater Auditions

Notes for Music Theater Applicants

• Applicants must begin the application process by submitting the Common Application to Oberlin Conservatory.  Music Theater applicants must then submit screening videos for review through the Audition and Screening Dropbox in the Applicant Portal.
• Applicants should upload all required screening materials by:
  • October 15 for Early Decision and Early Screening Review*
  • December 4 for Regular Decision
• *Early Screening Review: Applicants who submit both the completed Common Application and all screening materials by October 15 will receive a screening decision by November 10. Those who pass the screening review will be invited at that time to schedule an audition.
• Please note: submitting materials by October 15 does not automatically make you an Early Decision applicant. To be considered for Early Decision, you must select the Early Decision option when submitting the Common Application.
• Early Decision applicants who pass the screening review must audition on campus on December 5, 2026.
• Applications and screening materials submitted after October 15, but no later than December 4, will receive a screening decision by the end of December, provided all required materials have been received.

2026 - 2027 On-Campus Music Theater Auditions

• Early Decision: Saturday, December 5, 2026
• Friday, December 4, 2026  (materials required by October 15)
• Saturday, February 13, 2027
• Sunday, February 14, 2027

Accompanist provided - please bring sheet music. There will be an in-person dance call.

2026 - 2027 Regional Music Theater Audition Dates

• *Karyn Overstreet Vocal Studio in San Diego, CA - November 14, 2026 
  • Accompanist provided - please bring sheet music. 
  • *Must be a student of Karyn Overstreet Vocal Studio.
• **Moonified Auditions in Dallas, TX - November 20 and 21, 2026 
  • Tracks required.
  • **Moonified Auditions are exclusively for College Audition Coach high school senior students and by invitation only.
• ***MTCA in New York City, NY - January 3 and 4, 2027 
  • Accompanist provided - please bring sheet music. There will be an in-person dance call following auditions.
  • ***Must be a member of MTCA to participate.
• Chicago Unifieds- January 31, February 1 and 2, 2027
  • Tracks required. There will be an in-person dance call.

2026 - 2027 Virtual Music Theater Audition Date

• Saturday, December 12, 2026

Screening Requirements

• Oberlin participates in the Musical Theater Common Prescreen on the Acceptd webpage using the below requirements:
  • Song Requirements:
    • One musical theater song from any time period.  Length: 60-90 seconds
    • One song of your choice from any time period and in any style that best suits you (musical theater, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.). This song should contrast the style of the first selection. Length: 60-90 seconds
  • Monologue Requirements:
    • One monologue from a published play or written by a professional writer. (A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, but may not have been professionally published.) Length: 60-90 seconds
  • Dance Requirements:
    • Show us your best version of dancing or moving. Length: 60-90 seconds
  • Ballet Requirements:
    • No ballet is required.
  • Optional Wild Card: (One 60-90 second video):
    • Think about the wild card section as an opportunity to show your personality or share something about you. This media can be ANYTHING you want - a special skill, an interesting story about yourself, a passion speech, an instrument you play, etc. “What do you want us to know about you?” Below is a list of ideas that have been successful in the past:
      • Singing or playing an original composition/song/poem or choreographed dance.
      • Performing your own Saturday Night Live-styled skit where you create a comedic character.
      • Sharing a hobby or activity that means something to you.
      • Performing in a language other than English in which you are fluent. Playing an instrument.
      • Making a “how-to” video on something you are good at, baking, calligraphy, gymnastics.
      • If you are a dancer and want to show us a different style you excel in: Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Ballet, etc.

Final Audition Requirements

• Applicants will be asked to sing live on their final audition date regardless of format or location of audition.
• Voice: 
  • Prepare three different pieces or excerpts that are each 32 bars long. 
  • Two of the three pieces may be the same as your screening submission.
  • We will provide an accompanist for live auditions on campus; virtual and live auditions off campus will require you to provide your own tracks. 
  • We will choose two of your selections during your live or Zoom audition.
• Dance, Monologue, and Optional Wild Card: Screening materials will be reviewed for these disciplines.
