Oberlin Bachelor of Science at a glance
BA vs. BS: Which is right for me?
You may have asked yourself, Should I get a BA or BS?, and the answer lies in your individual goals. Oberlin College offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in the majors listed below, giving you extra flexibility to carve out your chosen path. If you’re interested in exploring many disciplines, are undecided on your major, or seek a more open-ended curriculum, a BA could be what you’re looking for; if you already have specific career plans in mind, a BS may be the right choice.
The importance of our BS program
A BS curriculum has a strong emphasis on science and mathematics courses, allowing you to focus on your chosen major. Specifically, Oberlin requires a greater number of STEM classes for BS students than BA students. For those extra STEM requirements, you can choose courses from any BS major to fortify your studies—for example, while you’re pursuing a chemistry degree, you may decide to take the four additional courses in data science and physics. As a result, you’ll graduate with a degree that’s highly specialized, equipping you with valuable expertise for your chosen career or grad school pathway.
Prepare for your future
Working towards a Bachelor of Science is an excellent way to set yourself on the track to success. Whether you’re majoring in computer science, chemistry, or even setting your sights on pre-med, a BS from Oberlin gives you the confidence and knowledge to pursue your individual goals after graduation.
