Notes for Music Theater Applicants
- Music Theater applicants will submit screening videos for review via the Audition and Screening Dropbox on your Applicant Portal.
- Music theater applicants are expected to upload the screening requirements detailed below by December 4.

- *Karyn Overstreet Vocal Studio in San Diego, CA - November 16, 2024 (application deadline is November 10, 2024)
- **Moonifieds in Dallas, TX - November 22-24, 2024 (application deadline is November 1, 2024)
- ***MTCA in New York City, NY - January 4 and 5, 2025 (application deadline is November 22, 2024)
- New York City, NY - January 25 and 26, 2025

Screening Requirements
- Oberlin participates in the Musical Theater Common Prescreen on the Acceptd webpage using the below requirements:
- Song Requirements:
- One musical theater song from any time period. Length: 32 bar song cut.
- One song of your choice from any time period and in any style that best suits you (musical theater, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.). This song should contrast the style of the first selection. Length: 32 bar song cut.
- Monologue Requirements:
- One monologue from a published play or written by a professional writer. (A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, but may not have been professionally published.) Length: One minute.
- Dance Requirements:
- Show us your best version of dancing or moving. Length: One minute.
- Ballet Requirements:
- No ballet is required.
- Optional Wild Card: (One 60 second video):
- Think about the wild card section as an opportunity to show your personality or share something about you. This media can be ANYTHING you want - a special skill, an interesting story about yourself, a passion speech, an instrument you play, etc. “What do you want us to know about you?” Below is a list of ideas that have been successful in the past:
- Singing or playing an original composition/song/poem or choreographed dance.
- Performing your own Saturday Night Live-styled skit where you create a comedic character.
- Sharing a hobby or activity that means something to you.
- Performing in a language other than English in which you are fluent. Playing an instrument.
- Making a “how-to” video on something you are good at, baking, calligraphy, gymnastics.
- If you are a dancer and want to show us a different style you excel in: Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Ballet, etc.
- Think about the wild card section as an opportunity to show your personality or share something about you. This media can be ANYTHING you want - a special skill, an interesting story about yourself, a passion speech, an instrument you play, etc. “What do you want us to know about you?” Below is a list of ideas that have been successful in the past:

Final Audition Requirements
- Applicants will be asked to sing live on their final audition date regardless of format or location of audition.
- Voice: Prepare three different pieces or excerpts that are each 32 bars long. Two of the three pieces may be the same as your screening submission. We will provide an accompanist for live auditions on campus; live auditions off campus will require you to provide your own recorded accompaniment. We will choose two of your selections during your live or Zoom audition.
- Dance, Monologue, and Optional Wild Card: Screening materials will be reviewed for these disciplines.
