Oberlin College Custodial Department
The Custodial Department consists of one manager, who oversees the custodial contractor Scioto Services. The department is responsible for the cleanliness of all college campus buildings (academic buildings and resident halls). Residence halls are cleaned on day shift, Monday through Friday, while academic buildings are cleaned on night shift, Monday through Friday. There is a limited number of weekend staff.
Cleaning Products
The department recognizes that Green Seal is a great source when it comes to making a decision on a product. We currently use Green Seal certified products from Spartan and Johnson Diversey. For our daily cleaning we use Clean by Peroxy; for daily bathroom cleaning we use Crew, and for glass and multi-surface we use Glance. For our floor cleaning we use Stride, a citrus-based neutral cleaner.
Consume – contains naturally occurring digester enzymes that break down organic soils helping us to maintain our drains and eliminate odors.
We use Spartan I-Shine, a UL Certified product, to finish our hard floors.
Hand Soap
We are currently using Afia foaming hand soap, which is Green Seal Certified.
Paper Products
The paper products that we stock are manufactured by Renown and are Green Seal Certified. The Tissue is 100 percent recycled (recovered after paper making process) with a minimum of 20 percent, post-consumer, waste paper content, the core and box are 100 percent recycled material. The paper towels are 100 percent recycled (recovered after paper making process) with a minimum of 40 percent, post-consumer waste paper content, the core and box are 100 percent recycled material and EcoLogo Certified.
