Guest Director Fenlon Lamb offers a vibrant vision of this classical opera—which tells the story of a two-sided love triangle—in Oberlin Opera Theater’s fall production.

The octet, know for their eclectic repertoire, are heading into their third decade with a personnel change and a continued commitment to connection through music, including a workshop and Artist Recital Series appearance on campus this month.

This collective of musicians reinterprets American folk tunes through their varied cultural backgrounds and musical training. And on September 13 at 7:30 pm, the group will perform in Finney Chapel as part of the Artist Recital Series.

“Strum,” “Strike,” and “Bend” are all evocative references to the physicality of string and percussion instruments. And one is especially significant.

The vocalist and songwriter brings her distinct blend of folk, blues, gospel, and more to Finney Chapel on April 6 in an appearance with the Martha Redbone Roots Project.

“It was really amazing going into the community and performing an art form that they probably haven't seen before,” second-year voice major Ella Vaugn said, “Teachers would tell us that they've never seen their students so engaged.”

Jazz icon and Oberlin Conservatory professor, Billy Hart, is part of the inaugural group of venerated jazz greats recognized as champions of the music genere.

This spring, Oberlin Opera is set to entangle its audiences in the game of love with its production of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera. Set in a garden, this story will intertwine love, trickery, and the art of gameplay into one. 

Celebrated violinist and pedagogue Midori concludes a two-part Oberlin residency on March 5, reuniting with pianist Özgür Aydin to perform a program inspired by poetry and folk music.

This April, Distinguished Artists in Residence Sharon Robinson and Jaime Laredo will share their musicianship and artistry with Oberlin Conservatory students in masterclasses, performances, and more.
