Career Exploration and Development
Winter Term Washington DC & Congressional Micro-Internships
Career Exploration & Development will coordinate the Washington Congressional Internship Program - a collaboration with the Politics Department - and expand to include Nonprofits, NGOs and Think Tanks.
The program annually sponsors Winter Term internships for students in congressional offices. The application process takes place before fall break.
During Fall Break, the Intern Coordinator will present the successful applications to Congressional office staff in Washington, seeking intern placements. Students also have the option to self-secure their congressional internship by reaching out directly to their home-state congressional representatives. This option is highly encouraged as congressional representatives always like to directly connect with their constituents.
Student interns learn how congressional offices run and participate in some of the offices' essential functions, such as answering constituent mail, conducting research, and attending hearings. Many interns later work in Congress or participate in electoral politics in other ways.
Important information on the Congressional Internship can be found here (dates, housing, etc.)
Career Exploration and Development has created a helpful website for students seeking housing.
Applications are due by 5pm FRIDAY, September 27, 2024.
