All students, no matter what health insurance they have, are welcome to use Student Health Services. While there is a charge for some specialized services, and a $5 fee for a Clia Waived Lab Test, there is no copay for an appointment.

You can pay using cash, check, credit or debit card, Obie Dollars and Student Charge. Bring your Oberlin College Photo ID with you. Students do not need the college-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan to be seen at Student Health Services or the Counseling Center.

Services Provided to the Student

  • Treatment of illnesses and most welness visits at no cost
  • Many diagnostic tests ordered by the provider, and performed in the office for a small fee.
    • These tests include rapid strep, rapid mono, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, and hemoglobin.
  • Cold Care Kits are free, no appointment needed. Just ask for one!
  • Oberlin HIV Peer Testing (Free, anonymous, and confidential), 7-10pm, Sunday to Thursday, Wilder Hall, 308
  • Emergency contraception is provided within 72 hours of intercourse for a small fee of $5. Please call ahead to make a same day appointment. There will be a form to complete. No urine testing unless it is requested by the student and then the fee is $5/urine test. Bring college ID. Also, emergency contraception is available upon request for a $5/fee. Appointment is necessary. Bring college ID.
  • Birth control appointments are free. The provider will prescribe the appropriate oral contraceptive for you.You can then take the prescription to any local pharmacy to have it filled. Be sure that you bring your insurance/prescription card.
  • Allergy injections are now administered on Fridays at Student Health Services. Students who need to have allergy injections administered must contact SHS, a local provider, or allergist office to schedule an appointment. Allergy injection protocols will be discussed at that time.

Can I use my health insurance to pay?

We do not bill any insurance directly other than Academic Health Plans Insurance for the above listed services. A Walk Out statement will be provided for your submission to your insurance company. You will receive the negotiated contract price based on the terms of your policy.

Do I need to bring my health insurance card to every visit to SHS or other medical facilities?

Bring your health insurance card or mobile App to each SHS visit. This will also allow us to make a copy for your chart if needed. You will need your insurance card for lab and x-ray procedures, referrals, other office visits, walk-in clinic, urgent care, ER visits and to fill prescriptions at the local pharmacy.
