Check-In

At the start of each semester, all students must “check-in” by swiping their Oberlin ID card at a designated swipe reader to confirm they are physically present on campus.

Students who are early arrivals or will live in the same campus housing in summer and fall and are not participating in move-in will need to check-in at the Office of Residential Education Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to Noon or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and request to use their swipe reader to check-in. Please note, check-in must be completed by the deadline in the academic calendar.

How do I check-in?

To check-in you will need to swipe your Oberlin ID card at a designated swipe reader. This action will mark you as checked in and no further action will be required of you.

When and where do I check-in?

If you live on campus, check-in will occur when you move-in. For Fall 2021, there will be two locations for check-in. Students living on South Campus will check-in at South Hall Lobby. Students living on North Campus will check-in at the Knowlton. During move-in days, the check-in desks will be staffed between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you miss the opportunity to check-in during move-in, you can visit the Office of Residential Education Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to Noon or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and request to use their swipe reader to check-in. Please note, check-in must be completed by the deadline in the academic calendar.

If you live off-campus, the ability to check-in begins when classes begin. Please visit the Office of Residential Education Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to Noon or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and request to use their swipe reader to check-in. Please note, check-in must be completed by the deadline in the academic calendar.

I am not able to check-in during business hours.

If you cannot check-in during business hours, you may check-in at the Campus Safety Office up until the deadline in the academic calendar.

I am not able to check-in by the deadline in the academic calendar.

If you are unable to check-in by the deadline in the academic calendar, please write to registrar@oberlin.edu in advance of the deadline with your reasoning. Staff will review and you will receive a reply email with how to proceed.

What happens if I do not check-in by the deadline?

If you do not check-in by the deadline in the academic calendar, it is assumed that you are not attending Oberlin College. As a result, you will be withdrawn from Oberlin College. Students who are withdrawn may apply for reinstatement in a future term according to the fall and spring terms deadlines.
