For Graduating Students and Families

We look forward to welcoming parents and families to campus this year as we celebrate the accomplishments of Oberlin's newest alumni, the Class of 2022. Information for graduates and families about the weekend is detailed below.

Eligibility to Graduate 

Students who have questions about their eligibility to participate in Commencement exercises should send an email to or call (440) 775-8450.

In general, a student must be registered for work sufficient to complete all requirements for the degree(s) sought by the end of the last semester in residence in order to be eligible to participate in the annual Commencement exercises following that semester. Students who have permission to finish their work away from Oberlin may participate in Commencement exercises only after all requirements have been met.

Mid-year 2022 graduates and their families are invited to participate in all Commencement and Milestone Reunion Weekend festivities, including Commencement.

Registration for June's Commencement closed at 11:59 p.m. EDT on May 23, 2022. 

Name Pronunciation

To ensure your name is pronounced correctly during the Commencement ceremony, you may record your name in MarchingOrder when you register to attend commencement. MarchingOrder invitations will be sent to eligible students by April 1. If you have applied to graduate and do not receive an email before April 1, email the degree auditors at

Graduation Announcements

You may order graduation announcements and class rings from Jostens .


A photographer from GradImages will be at your ceremony to take a candid photograph of you at your special moment of recognition.

  • You will receive a free passport-sized digital proof of this photo on an order card within 5-7 days following the ceremony.

  • Since photographs will be available, we encourage family members and guests to remain in their seats, relax, and enjoy the ceremony.
  • Before the ceremony: To preregister your permanent email address, visit and select "Pre-Event Registration." You may add contact information for up to six additional relatives and or friends.

Caps and gowns are not required to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

Meal and Event Registrations

Registration is required for certain meals and events and can be done through the  registration page.

Graduating students are required to register for these events using the "Graduates" track during the registration process. When they register, students may request a complimentary ticket to the family social and can purchase tickets to other events that may require a registration fee.

Parents and guests of graduating students are required to register for these events using the "Parents/Family Members of Graduating Seniors" track. When they register, parents and guests may purchase tickets to all events, including the Family Social and other Commencement Weekend events.

Event tickets will be available for pick up at the Welcome Center located inside the Big Top tent on Wilder Bowl. The Welcome Center will be open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 3 and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4.

Family Lodging and Accommodations

You can find a list of hotels near campus on the accommodations page linked below. Please note: the Hotel at Oberlin is currently full and will be unavailable June 3 through 5.

Local Accommodations

Available during the weekend, the Airport Oberlin Shuttle Service provides direct transportation between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Oberlin College. Service will begin on June 2 and run through June 5. Fare is $25 per person. 

Commencement Exercises

In May, graduating seniors and mid-year graduates who have registered to walk in Commencement via Marching Order will receive email communications with additional instructions for the morning of the Ceremony (e.g., check-in time, line-up instructions, etc.).
