The 2021 Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA, Section 314 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021) was signed into law authorizing an additional Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) designated as HEERF II.
Through CRRSAA, Oberlin has been awarded additional funds by the U.S. Department of Education to make emergency financial aid awards to assist students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to continue their education.
CRRSAA emergency financial aid awards are prioritized for students with exceptional financial need and are to be used for any component of the student's costs of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition and fees, food assistance, housing assistance, health care (including mental health care) emergencies, or childcare.

How much did Oberlin receive from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund and for what can it be used?
Oberlin has been granted an additional $728,674 in HEERF II funding to distribute to students for qualified expenses, including cost of attendance items, food, housing, course materials, coronavirus-related medical fees, child care, and other hardships incurred.
About HEERF II
The federal government recently announced the distribution of emergency cash grants to college students whose lives and education have been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. This funding is available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II, authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). CRRSAA Expense Categories
Oberlin has received federal funding from CRRSAA, which provides assistance for a student's cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus. CRRSAA grants for students may be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care.
Students can utilize funds in these categories:
- any component of their cost of attendance including unpaid tuition and room and board expenses
- emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as:
- health care (including mental)
- child care
Students can receive funds one of two ways:
- refunded directly to them
- applied to the student account
Who may apply to receive financial assistance?
Any student may apply.
Are graduating seniors eligible to apply?
Yes. Graduating May 2021 seniors are eligible to receive HEERF II grant monies. Students need to have been enrolled in the spring or summer of 2021 to qualify.
What is the maximum assistance I can receive?
Assistance will initially be limited to $1,500 per student.
What is the process for applying?
Use this application to apply for financial assistance. Once completed, your application will be reviewed by a committee of College administrators to ensure that the request meets the terms and conditions of the program.
