Tornado Facts

According to the National Weather Service, there have been 29 tornadoes in Lorain County between 1950 and 2014, ranking the Lorain County tornado rate as high in the hazard of tornado.

People describe their tornado experiences being affiliated with a dark or green-colored sky, or seeing a large dark low-lying cloud swirling or with trailing tails or funnels extending and large hail.

Tornadoes can appear nearly transparent until dust and debris are picked up or a cloud forms in the funnel.

Flying debris causes most deaths and injuries during a tornado.
