I'm Alicia, and I'm a senior from East Lansing, Michigan. My major is Sociology and I have a minor in African-American Studies.
One of my biggest passions is writing. After I graduate in the spring, I am planning on attending graduate school to work on a master's degree in journalism. I am a sports writer for the Oberlin Review, which has given me some direct experience in the field. I also work for the assistant athletic director doing office tasks, sports promotion projects, and whatever else needs to get done. One of my newest projects this year is writing a "Fan of the Month" section for the athletics website which I am really excited about.
Although sports are a part of my life, they are certainly only a small part. I am in the Mellon Undergraduate Research Program, which has allowed me to do an independent research project with a faculty member. I am also an Academic Ambassador, which basically is a fancy word for an upper-classman whose job is to help first-years adjust to college life. In addition, I am a sociology major student representative, so I serve as a liaison between sociology majors and faculty. Somehow I've also found the time to volunteer with a program called City Fresh, which provides large amounts of fresh, local produce at reasonable prices to the Oberlin community.
This is only a small taste of the essence of Alicia, or Fresh, as my friends call me. I'm a pretty cool person, and hopefully this is reflected in my blog. If not, just take my word for it.
