Residential Education and Dining Services
Residential Education (ResEd) enables the extension and enhancement of academic learning beyond the classroom. This is accomplished through providing quality programming, efficient services, and safe and comfortable facilities. ResEd maintains a personal presence in students’ lives through its staff of resident assistants (RAs), lead resident assistants (LRAs), and village assistants (VAs), full-time students who help build community, involve students in college programs, resolve conflicts, and uphold college rules.
RAs, LRAs, and VAs report to professional staff who live in college housing and support and oversee their efforts toward fostering community.
ResEd offices are located on the ground floor of Stevenson Hall in Griswald Commons. In addition to managing student housing, ResEd assists students in planning safe on-campus social activities.
Oberlin has a contract with Bon Appétit Management Company to operate the dining halls on campus. Bon Appétit is an on-site restaurant company that provides café and catering services to the college, and is especially committed to cooking from scratch with fresh seasonal ingredients in an environmentally sustainable fashion. Dining services staff work closely with the staff of Bon Appétit to provide the best services to Oberlin students. While Dining Services also works closely with Residential Education, it maintains a separate staff including dining hall managers, a dietitian, and administrators.
Conference Services at Oberlin College offers a variety of services from hosting large conferences to the rental of campus facilities for weddings and smaller gatherings. Campus facilities are generally available from June 14 through July 31 for major conferences, while spaces for weddings are available throughout the year.
Returning major conference clients must complete their Request for Dates form and return it no later than September 30. Requests for new major conference groups are due by November 30.
