Lyric tenor Alek Shrader '07 in recital at Oberlin Conservatory March 1

The Washington Post calls Oberlin alumnus and Met Opera singer Alek Shrader "a gifted young tenor." He will present a recital at Oberlin Conservatory on March 1, at 7 p.m. in Warner Concert Hall. The concert is free and no tickets are required.

Oberlin’s 2013 black history celebration, Black Arts, revisited, reminds us of the power of the arts throughout history to increase awareness and understanding, to honor innovation and talent, and to bring disparate people and cultures together when institutions, beliefs, traditions, and public policies cannot. Featured speakers and performers include soprano Adrienne Danrich, Duke University Professor Fred Moten, performance artist Aisha Cousins, and writer Marlene NourbeSe Philip.

On Sunday, February 17 at 3 p.m., musicians from the widely acclaimed Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra and Oberlin Conservatory of Music will perform in a concert to benefit homeless families served by Family Promise of Lorain County. The concert will be held at First Church in Oberlin and donations are welcome.
