Overview

The Gletherow-Young-Deppman Project Award supports Oberlin students pursuing community-engaged projects that connect academic and artistic study with locally identified community needs. The award prioritizes projects that integrate experiential learning, professional development, and sustained collaboration with community partners in Oberlin.

Projects should demonstrate how coursework, creative practice, and prior community-based learning inform meaningful, practical engagement.

Project Priorities

Strong preference is given to projects that:

  • Connect to an experiential learning component within an integrative concentration
  • Are developed in consultation with a community partner and address specific community and student learning needs
  • Demonstrate clear contributions to social, artistic, educational, medical, or environmental needs
  • Build on participation in PACE or Community Based Learning courses, training, or workshops

Projects may be student-initiated or build on existing Oberlin–community partnerships.

Who should apply?

  • Individual Arts & Sciences and Conservatory of Music students with sophomore or junior standing
  • Students pursuing integrative concentrations or combining academic, creative, and community-based work

Please note:

  • Group projects are not eligible
  • Projects must be independent projects and may not be undertaken to fulfill course requirements.
