Intern Housing FAQ's
The Office of Residence Life provides a list of permitted and prohibited items. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, illegal substances, weapons, cooking appliances, and candles.
Woodland Hall contains an extensive parking lot for resident use, conveniently located right outside the building. Interns must register their vehicle with conference services, display the provided hangtag, and may park in any spaces that are not reserved.
Interns will be staying in the newly constructed Woodland Hall on the north side of Campus. Click here for information about the building.
Woodland Hall offers small kitchenettes in each unit as well as a shared kitchen space on the first floor. Their is laundry facilities on each floor and do not require any sort of payment.
On the intern housing online form, there will be a field where interns may request a specific roommate(s). Each suite will have four members, so if interns only request one roommate, two other roommates will be added randomly.
We do not provide linens but there are many locations in the area or online to purchase them. Woodland Hall beds are Twin XL beds.
All residence halls require an ID to enter the building and any specific rooms. There are regulations in the residence halls as to what residents can have in their rooms in order to avoid safety hazards. Campus Safety officers patrol the area regularly, and all residence halls have safety and emergency numbers posted on communal bulletin boards.
At Woodland Hall, there is no front desk, only a lobby area where you enter and then proceed straight to your room assignment. The office of Residence Life, located in Stevenson Hall, has a front desk that can assist residents. Conference Services will also always have a student Housing Assistant on call who can assist.
Mail will be sent to Conference Services and interns will get an email when their mail is ready to be picked up. Interns must list their address as follows:

Yes, all residents have access to the recreation center. Upon entering the building at normal building hours, there is a front desk area where you will tap your key card in order to enter the building.
All residents will live in a four person suite. Each person will have their own room and will share a kitchenette and bathroom with their suitemates.
Yes. All interns will be housed in Woodland Hall and will have the opportunity to select their suitemates.
Interns will be provided with a contract outlining their housing arrangements and roommate assignments.
Each apartment includes a private bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink, as well as a kitchenette equipped with a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, sink, counter space, cupboards, table, and chairs. Individual bedrooms are furnished with a bed, dresser, drawers, desk and chair, window, and closet. Four-person suites open into the shared kitchen area, which then connects to four separate bedrooms and the bathroom.
Communal spaces in Woodland Hall will be maintained by Oberlin College custodial staff; however, individual suites will not be serviced.
Woodland Hall is equipped with two elevators providing access to all four floors. Additionally, most campus buildings feature elevators and are equipped with ADA-compliant push buttons for accessibility.
Interns will be provided with a username and password to access Oberlin College’s primary Wi-Fi network; guest Wi-Fi is also available at all times.
All residence hall entrances are equipped with key card readers, requiring residents to tap their key card for entry. While all residents have access to residence hall common areas, only the assigned occupants of a room or unit may use their ID to unlock that specific space.
If residents lose their keys, they must go to the Office of Residence Life to receive a new one. If residents lock their key card inside their rooms, they may call the office or the Housing Assistant on call between the hours of 8-10. After 10 pm, residents must call Campus Safety to be let back into their rooms.
For maintenance issues, interns may email confserv@oberlin.edu or call the Housing Assistant on duty. If it is an emergency or after hours, please call Campus Safety (440.775.8444).
Guests will not have access to scan into rooms or residence halls. They can visit residents as long as residents stay with their guests.
As a federally funded institution, drugs are not allowed on campus. Residents under 21 are expected to not have any alcohol in their living spaces. Other policies can be found here.
Residents in Woodland Hall have access to 24/7 emergency response staff as well as 24/7 automated locking exterior doors with card access. There is on-site parking, a suite-style elevator, and free laundry facilities. Utilities are included, such as water, electricity, and air-conditioning. There is custodial service in common areas as well as maintenance service and emergency maintenance service. Residents also have access to free high-speed internet access.
Residents should be sure to bring extra long fitted twin sheets, a pillowcase, pillow, and blanket. Bath towels and shower shoes are necessary, and many residents enjoy having a bathrobe. Rain gear and an umbrella are necessary, as well as personal toiletries like soap and shampoo. Many residents enjoy having a small reading lamp for their desk and clothes hangers for their closets. In a walkable campus and town such as Oberlin, comfortable shoes or sneakers come in handy. Dishes, glasses, and silverware are useful for cooking in communal kitchens, or for snacks residents may have inside their rooms. Residents should bring their own laptops, and are welcome to bring a small TV and other electronics.
While Oberlin is a small town, there are many fun places to visit. Downtown Oberlin is only a few steps away from campus and contains many restaurants and shops. Oberlin College has an art museum that is open to visitors, and there are historic markers throughout the town. Oberlin is about a thirty-minute drive away from Cleveland, a popular destination for Oberlin College residents. Cleveland’s attractions include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Crocker Park, and University Circle.
