Wi-Fi and Network Access

The Center for Information Technology offers a variety of options for internet connectivity to the entire campus community and visitors. As your dedicated technology partner, CIT is committed to consistently providing innovative solutions to meet all your technology needs. To connect, please see the available options below.

Wireless Networks

eduroam

  • Security & Reliability: For a secure connection, choose eduroam. It’s the recommended network for portable devices like laptops and smartphones, ensuring your data remains protected.
  • Initial Setup: The first time you connect, you’ll need to enter your email (obieID@oberlin.edu), your password, and accept a security certificate.
  • Connection Guide: Detailed instructions for connecting to eduroam can be found in our eduroam Connection Guide.
  • Eligibility: Available to Oberlin College affiliates with an ObieID.

ObieGuest

  • Description: Unsecure network with restricted internet access to non-public campus resources.
  • Eligibility: Intended for guests only.

ObieConnect

  • Purpose-Built for Stationary Devices: ObieConnect is designed for stationary consumer devices, including smart speakers, TVs, and gaming systems.
  • Multi-Device Friendly: Obtain a unique password to connect up to 20 devices securely.

Wired Network

Many office locations on campus are equipped with active wired network ports. In residence hall rooms, wired network ports are available but not activated by default. To request activation of a network port in any location, please place service request using the CIT Services Portal.

VPN

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a secure internet connection that uses encryption and tunneling protocols to establish a protected connection, or tunnel, to a private network.
