ERP Optimization

Oberlin’s current ERP system has been in place 30 years ago and is outdated, fragmented, and not well-integrated across departments. It limits data visibility, causes inefficiencies in workflows, and cannot scale to meet modern demands. Recognizing the critical role ERP plays in institutional operations, CIT launched an initiative to evaluate, select, and implement a cloud-based ERP solution. This system will support functions like student services, HR, finance, and more, streamlining operations across the college.

Expected Impact:

A modern ERP will unify data across departments, enhance reporting, and improve real-time decision-making. It will also increase automation, reduce manual entry, and lower the administrative burden on staff. This optimization will provide students, faculty, and administrators with more intuitive tools and self-service capabilities. Ultimately, it will transform institutional operations, align with strategic goals, and serve as a foundation for long-term digital transformation at Oberlin.

Technology Advisory Council (TAC)

Technology planning at Oberlin historically occurred in silos, often disconnected from broader institutional goals. To improve alignment, transparency, and stakeholder engagement, CIT established the Technology Advisory Council (TAC), a cross-functional body of faculty, staff, and leadership to advise on IT strategy and investments.

Expected Impact:

TAC has become a vital governance structure that brings diverse perspectives to technology decision-making. It ensures that IT priorities reflect the college’s academic and administrative needs while promoting shared ownership of outcomes. Through regular meetings and structured reviews, TAC facilitates open dialogue, evaluates proposals, and advises on long-term planning. This inclusive process enhances institutional alignment, reduces resistance to change, and improves the success rate of major initiatives. Ultimately, TAC helps position IT as a strategic enabler at Oberlin.

HPC Innovation Project

Oberlin’s faculty and students increasingly rely on computational tools for research across disciplines, from data science and physics to technology and digital humanities. However, current high-performance computing (HPC) resources are limited and fragmented. CIT in partnership with faculty members launched this project to expand and modernize HPC infrastructure in order to support innovative academic work and large-scale research.

Expected Impact:

Expanded HPC capabilities will empower faculty to pursue more ambitious research agendas and attract external funding. Students will have access to cutting-edge resources that enhance learning and skill development. This initiative also fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthens Oberlin’s reputation as a research-supportive institution, and integrates with broader digital scholarship efforts. In the long term, it positions CIT as a critical partner in advancing Oberlin’s academic mission.
