Oberlin Blogs

Simon T. ’29

Hey everyone! I’m Simon, a first-year student from the Northern Mariana Islands (tiny islands near Australia), double majoring in computer science and data science. I’m indubitably passionate about making things work, finding new ways to integrate automation, and entrepreneurship in a general sense to make revolutionary change wherever I go. I love thinking about the intersection of creativity in data and how it correlates to the business realm. I can only think of this as a quote: “You don’t have to always like what you do, but you do have to love what you will achieve from it.”

Outside the classroom, I’m a hurdler on Oberlin’s track and field team, where I’ve learned lessons that apply far beyond athletics. I also enjoy creating motivational social media content focused on self-improvement, a persevering mindset, and growth. My faith in God keeps me grounded in releasing myself from the external things of life that I can’t control. Through this blog, I hope to share my experiences as a student-athlete, creator, and dreamer to hopefully inspire others to stay driven, faithful, and curious about what’s truly possible in one’s life.
