Oberlin Blogs

Lucas Ritchie-Shatz ’25

Hey, I’m Lucas! I’m from NYC and I’m a second-year here at Oberlin. I’m planning on majoring in cinema studies and possibly double minoring in book studies and East Asian studies. Though I have a million other interests, film is one of my biggest passions and a great lens to be able to engage in other topics. I’ve also been a student of Chinese for around 8 years now, which sparked my interest in East Asian studies.

As for other things I do on campus, I host a radio show (Fridays at 4pm! Come listen!) as well as work on staff for WOBC, in addition to being involved with Chabad. You can usually find me getting a large iced latte at Azzie’s, eating at weird hours to be able to get the avocado salmon sushi rolls in Wilder, or biking around whenever I can. I love the change of pace from city life here, and it’s one of my great joys to be able to enjoy all the nature that Oberlin has to offer! Feel free to say hi if you see me around. :)

Explorations in Terrell Main Library

Ever since I was little, I’ve been in love with the feeling of walking through shelf after shelf, seeing the personalities of each book and their histories.
