Chief Investment Officer Jainen Thayer has accepted an offer to serve as the chief investment officer at Grinnell College. He will continue in his current position at Oberlin College until the end of August and he will assume his new role at Grinnell in mid-September.

Varner will begin her appointment on June 5 in order to ensure a systematic transition of duties.

Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary Sandhya Subramanian has announced that she will be leaving Oberlin College at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to become General Counsel at Dartmouth College beginning July 1.

Alan Norton has been appointed interim vice president for finance and administration subject to Board approval and will assume oversight of the financial and business administration of the college when Mike Frandsen leaves the position to become the president of Wittenberg University on July 1.

Vice President for Finance and Administration Mike Frandsen has announced that he will be leaving Oberlin College at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to become the President of Wittenberg University beginning July 1.

The board’s first meeting of the new academic year took place on campus October 6 and 7. The board welcomed five new trustees, who will undertake an orientation program through which they gain knowledge about the issues facing the college. As I noted previously, we expect the presidential search to be the board’s most important work in this academic year. The search committee website will soon be established and this will keep the community apprised of the search progress.

The college is preparing for impending transitions and will make decisions about filling vacancies on a case-by-case basis.
