Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary Sandhya Subramanian has announced that she will be leaving Oberlin College at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to become General Counsel at Dartmouth College beginning July 1.

“Sandhya created our Office of Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, and she has been invaluable on so many fronts,” says President Marvin Krislov. “Her legal acumen, work ethic, and dedication have made a real difference to Oberlin College and we congratulate her on her many accomplishments.”

Subramanian began serving as general counsel and secretary at Oberlin in July 2008, and was subsequently named a vice president in 2010. As the college's chief legal officer, she is responsible for managing the college’s legal affairs and overseeing legal services to the college, providing advice on a wide array of legal questions including the impact of existing and proposed laws and regulations on college operations or policies. Subramanian also serves as liaison to the Oberlin College Board of Trustees and its committees and coordinates various aspects of faculty governance.

“It has been an honor to serve Oberlin,” Subramanian says. “I deeply value the relationships I have been fortunate to build with my colleagues in the administration and the faculty, and with the Board of Trustees. I will always be grateful to President Krislov, the board, and the Oberlin community for giving me countless opportunities to learn. It has been immensely gratifying to contribute to such a transformative institution. For all these reasons, my decision to leave Oberlin was extremely difficult. At the same time, Dartmouth offers an exciting chance to join a community committed to the values of academic excellence and proactive cultural change that animate all our programs and initiatives at Oberlin and inspire my own professional choices.”

Details on the search for Subramanian’s replacement will be shared as they become available.
