Office of Communications
Web Initiatives
The webteam supports the college’s marketing and communications initiatives by developing, supporting, and maintaining the college’s public-facing website.
We collaborate with campus partners and external resources to make the website as effective as possible for engaging with key audiences.
Oberlin launched a fully redesigned website (www.oberlin.edu) in 2017, built on the Drupal content management platform, replacing several old tools, including dotCMS, which have now been phased out. The webteam is responsible for maintaining the system, developing web features, supporting and training users, and writing and curating much of the content on the top-level pages of www.oberlin.edu.
The webteam also manages web projects from conception through production, and provides web-related consultation and support to departments, offices, and others within the campus community.
Our responsibilities extend to developing and maintaining several self-contained websites, such as the Winter Term: On-Campus Experience , and the Cooper International Competition .
We also manage several web-related tools, including the events calendar (calendar.oberlin.edu) , our Google custom search engine, Google Analytics, Flickr photo galleries , the Silktide monitoring service, certain email templates, non-oberlin.edu domain registration, and promotional URLs (go.oberlin.edu).
Following the migration to Drupal, our next major initiative is to enhance the accessibility of the website for all site visitors, particularly those with disabilities. While the upgrade provided a significant improvement, more work is required to ensure that everyone can find and use what they need on the website.
