Dating Life Part 2

Natalie F. ’26

This is a follow-up on my last blog article on the dating life at Oberlin where I ask myself, “what is the dating life like at Oberlin?”

It seems silly, but it’s an important question. I mean, you’re going to be spending four years here, don’t you want some reassurance that you won’t be spending those four years despairing your singleness?

Maybe you will. Maybe you won’t date anyone.

But I have proof of three more successful couples that dating at Oberlin is possible…and better than that, enjoyable.

Aidan & Grace

I met Aidan in Tank Co-Op. Aidan has insane drip. They cook an amazing Tuesday lunch at our co-op. We work out at the gym together. They go to the gym way more often than I do. It’s sort of embarrassing on my part.

“Oberlin style picture –– we had a 6 month long slow burn friends to lovers arc, I can’t lie.”

Elyssa & Kibriya

Elyssa is my roommate, I basically forced her to participate in this article. And as her roommate, I can confirm that Elyssa is in a beautiful, nauseating relationship. She calls Kibriya every night. They have date nights. (Who actually maintains date nights in long distance?) Kibriya comes and visits every few months. Elyssa looks lovestruck.

Well, let me tell you, I did not have an attractive roommate when I was studying abroad. (Or maybe I did… #IWasLivingByMyself.)

“We were roommates at our study abroad program in Bath, England (thanks, ASE)! I enjoyed talking with her late into the night and drinking afternoon tea together during the day. I fell for her fake British accent one unassuming night, but it was really when we were apart for two days in Stratford that I realized how much I missed her. When we got back from that trip, I confessed my feelings in a nerve-wracking moment, and luckily she felt the same way!”

Eric & Dezzie

Oh, Eric. Eric is a baller. A hooper. A big shot. A capital P Player. They are the big leagues, and they happen to be dating someone they met at Oberlin. I haven’t met Dezzie, but I have met Eric, and they are moving across the country (or a few states) to join them next semester. Love is real, I guess.

“We lived in the same co-op across the hall from each other. Fairytale friends-to-lovers. Co-op luv. ‘I saw you from across the cookshift’ kind of vibes. But more like ‘I saw you from across PerCo’ because we were the big cheese. They graduated last spring and just got their dream job in Baltimore, and I’m going to follow them there :-)”

Love is everywhere. It is inescapable––and Oberlin is no oasis from the aches and pains (and occasional joys) of modern dating. Maybe you'll avoid it, maybe you'll chase it, maybe you'll go to the Cat in the Cream on their Dating Game Show night.

Well, no matter what, you're in for a fun ride. (;

March, Oh My!

The month of March 2026 was probably the busiest I have been on this campus since moving to Oberlin. So let me break down the month’s ups and downs, and how I was able to navigate through them.

While every freshman visits Cleveland as part of the Connect Cleveland program, it’s my observation that many students forget that this is always an available resource.
