portrait of Heidi Scott.

Heidi M. Scott, a member of Oberlin’s Class of 2023 who was pursuing advanced studies in virology, died June 5. She was 27.

At Oberlin, Heidi studied biology and developed an interest in viral pathogenesis and immunology as well as virus-host immune interactions. She was a member of the track and cross country teams and played oboe in the Arts and Sciences Orchestra.

Heidi was in the process of earning her master’s degree in virology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, with plans to start a PhD program in the fall. She loved the outdoors—especially the mountains—and playing the oboe. She used her artistic talent to make greeting cards to raise money for Kingston 4 Paws Service Dogs.

Heidi is survived by her parents, Chris and Neal; sister Nicole; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers. A celebration of life will be held July 19 at 10 a.m. at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts at Queen’s University.
