Black History Month Celebrations Under Way

Oberlin’s celebration of Black History Month is under way with an impressive slate of events. This past weekend, I attended the musical "Dessa Rose," which tells the story of an unlikely alliance between Dessa Rose, a young slave, and Ruth, a well-born white woman. Other events happening this month include “Black Ballot Power: A Conservation on the 1965 Voting Rights Act,” a guest recital and voice and spirituals master class with François Clemmons ’67, and “An Evening with Dr. Regina Benjamin.”

Don’t Forget! Dalai Lama Fellows Applications Due

The Bonner Center for Service and Learning is accepting applications for Dalai Lama Fellows through Friday, February 13. Fellows can receive a project grant of up to $10,000.

This weekend, I was reminded of how powerful the connections across generations are in our community. Strawberry Fields, an opera put on by students and faculty in collaboration with residents of Kendal at Oberlin, highlighted the amazing, creative, interdisciplinary, and experiential learning opportunities Oberlin offers. These attributes were also on display at the third annual LaunchU Pitch Competition.

OCMC: Making Interdisciplinary Learning More Accessible

The Oberlin College Media Center (OCMC) is Oberlin’s first creative media literacy, collaboration, and experimentation hub. At OCMC, student staff, known as media associates, provide workshops, playshops, drop-in lab assistance, and course support to help integrate arts and technology across curriculum, organizations, and independent projects.
