Pluralism, Fluency & Observance
In the work of upholding the dignity of all people, the Multifaith Chaplaincy supports the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life in striving to ensure that religious and non-religious students have personal and communal support. Learn more about religious organizations on campus. Both the Director of Religious Life and the Multifaith Chaplain are particularly interested in hearing from students who do not see a like-minded community on the list of current organizations. At Oberlin, we find that where there is an interest by one, there is a broader interest to follow.

Eid al-Fitr is the breaking of the fast, and marks the end of Ramadan. The Muslim Student Association held a banquet in the Root Room to celebrate.

Religious Holiday Observance Policy

According to the Oberlin College Faculty Guide and by approval of the General Faculty, students wishing to observe recognized religious holidays are excused automatically from classes that occur on these dates and faculty are to make it possible for students observing recognized religious holidays to make up any work they miss, provided arrangements are made in advance.

It is imperative that students notify their professors as far in advance as possible to provide ample time to make up any missed work, and no later than one week in advance of the holiday. See the Multifaith Calendar below to plan ahead for holidays you plan to observe.

Feel free to contact the Director of ORSL, Samia Mansour, with any specific questions regarding the Religious Holiday Observance Policy.

The policy below is excerpted from the Oberlin College Faculty Guide (2021):

The General Faculty has approved the following regulations:

i) Students wishing to observe recognized religious holidays are excused automatically from classes that occur on these dates.
ii) Faculty are to make it possible for students observing recognized holidays to make up any work they miss, provided arrangements have been made in advance.
