Grace Wilsey

Biography

Grace Wilsey is a media studies scholar focused on cultural systems of power. Her research traces the transhistorical genealogies of authority structures within changing technological landscapes and media industries from Hollywood to Silicon Valley. Her current book project on authorship as a system of power critiques the exploitative potentials imbued in cultural discourses of genius across historical media cultures related to the printing press, cinema, media convergent franchises, and digital algorithmic media. Most recently, she has published an article in Convergence on the intersections of authorship, cancel culture, branding logics, and media franchises titled, “From the Mind of J.K. Rowling: How Harry Potter Fan Destinations Mediate a Tainted Authorship Brand.”
