Dance Yiddish with Me!

Come learn the basics of Yiddish dancing with Oberlin alumna and Yiddish dance leader Miryam Coppersmith ’15. Yidish dance offers many joyful and playful ways to move to the klezmer music of Eastern European Jews. In this class, we’ll explore the rhythms of the music, dancing key historic forms in lines, circles, with a partner, or solo. We’ll learn what makes Yiddish dancing distinct from other Eastern European folk dances and from Israeli dance, which was developed later. No experience necessary, all are welcome!
