Biography

Eron Smith studies post-2000s pop, concerto form, and music-language intersections. She is the inaugural awards editor for the journal Theory and Practice and is on the production board of SMT-V.

Outside her professional life, Eron is also a pianist and intermittent oboist. She is an amateur songwriter, writer, and linguist, and is passionate about emotional literacy and mental-health coping strategies in academia.

Eron publishes under and prefers to be cited by their first name rather than last (e.g., “Eron 2023”). This preference is partially because her first name is significantly more distinct than her last and partially to question the assumption that patrilineal names are more professional.
