Election to membership in Phi Beta Kappa remains the most prestigious nationally and internationally recognized honor for scholastic attainment. Students do not apply; it is an honor to which they are elected based on their scholarly achievements.
The officers and Membership Committee of the Oberlin chapter of Phi Beta Kappa closely review academic records of outstanding juniors and seniors for breadth and balance of studies in the liberal arts in addition to academic excellence.
The Membership Committee reviews each candidate, looking at the achievements of each student to identify those whose record exemplifies the values of Phi Beta Kappa.
Election to Phi Beta Kappa requires no application. Students and their parents will be notified if chosen for this honor.
