Orientation
When is Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation?
All Posse Scholars are invited to participate in our new Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation. Posse Scholars will be permitted to move-in on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Please review the Posse Scholars Pre-Orientation Schedule above for a detailed overview.
What is the Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation and how is it different from the New Student Orientation?
The Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation Program is a thoughtfully designed experience that provides you with the opportunity to connect, engage, and build community with fellow Posse Scholars before the full New Student Orientation begins. This special time together is centered on helping you transition to Oberlin by fostering meaningful relationships and creating a shared sense of belonging with your peers from both Posse cities.
In addition to bonding within the Posse community, you will also have the chance to engage with students from other scholar cohorts and meet new international students. These cross-community connections are an important part of building a strong, supportive, and inclusive Obie network from day one.
Do I have to attend the Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation?
Yes. The Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation is a mandatory part of your Posse experience. If there are extenuating circumstances, please reach out to your Posse Liaison, Dr. Kyle R. Williams.
Does my family have to stay through New-Student Orientation?
If your family wishes to stay through New Student Orientation, they are more than welcome to do so. During the opening session for the Posse Scholar Pre-Orientation, both you and your family will have meaningful opportunities to engage with members of our Dean of Students team and support community. This includes a special welcome from our Deans and participation in the cherished Sweet Goodbye tradition—experiences that mirror key moments of the broader New Student Orientation.
While your family will miss the Parent Panel and the Resource Fair typically held during Orientation, much of that same information will be shared in a more personal and intimate way during the opening session with the Deans. This session provides space for families to ask questions, learn about campus support, and feel confident about the transition their students are making.

Residence Life
When will I receive my housing information?

Starting the week of June 9, 2025, students will be permitted to go back into the portal and complete their housing room selection lottery process.
