Oberlin College recognizes its faculty members with emeritus status who have provided distinguished service to their academic department during their tenure.
The following from the Department of Psychology have retired from Oberlin College. They remain engaged members of our psychology community.
William Friedman
A native of Philadelphia, William Friedman attended Oberlin College (1972) and the University of Rochester (1977). From 1976 to 2011, he taught in the Psychology Department at Oberlin, retiring in 2012. Bill taught lecture and laboratory courses in developmental psychology. His research focused on time concepts in children and adults. Bill's publications include three books, About time: Inventing the fourth dimension, The developmental psychology of time (editor), and Time, action and cognition (co-editor). He has also authored numerous chapters and journal articles. Bill has received grants from the National Science Foundation, The National Institutes of Health, and The American Philosophical Society. Bill has delivered invited lectures in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada, England, Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, and Israel. He lives in Santa Barbara, where he is pursuing his retirement interest in classical singing.
