There is a growing interest in ensuring success in STEM for women, Pell-eligible students, students of color, and students who are the first in their families to go to college. Oberlin has taken up that charge with a program called Science and Technology Research Opportunities for a New Generation (STRONG).

The STRONG program will bring eight (8) incoming Oberlin first-year students to campus in summer 2018, affording them the opportunity to participate in innovative research with Oberlin professors, to meet other students interested in STEM, and to get a head start on familiarizing themselves with the Oberlin community. The program is free for selected students, who will also be paid to do research for the month of July.

The 2018 STRONG program will run from Saturday, June 30 to Saturday, August 4, 2018. Students selected to be STRONG Scholars must be in residence on Oberlin’s campus for the entire duration of the program.

The application deadline is Monday, May 7, 2018. Selected Scholars will be notified in early June.
