January 13, 2016
Communications Staff
The Oberlin Heritage Center (OHC) is currently accepting nominations for its Community Awards program. Now in its 15th year, the program recognizes individuals, businesses, or organizations whose accomplishments are in keeping with OHC’s mission to “preserve and share Oberlin’s unique history and to make the community a better place to live, learn, work, and visit.”
Anyone may submit a nomination for any of the seven award categories: community historian, heritage guardian, teacher of the year, keep Oberlin beautiful, Oberlin Heritage Center volunteer of the year, business leader service, and youth community service. Previous awardees and current Oberlin Heritage Center trustees or paid staff members are not eligible for awards.
The deadline for submitting nominations is February 1, 2016. Nomination forms can be found on the OHC website. For more information, including a list of previous award winners, see the OHC website or contact the center directly at 440-774-1700 or members@oberlinheritage.org.

This Week in Photos: Beautiful
It’s Saturday night in March and there’s a pulsating glow spilling from the windows of the Root Room in Carnegie Building. Inside, rows of spectators line the perimeter of a long narrow stage. Oberlin’s most anticipated fashion show begins as cheers swell when models, draped in creative attire, take their turn down the walk. This is a signature event during Black History Month. It also serves as inspiration for this week’s photo series.
