Cooper Jury Reveals 2013 Concerto Finalists

After five days of extraordinary performances, the lineup is set for the Concerto Finals of the 2013 Cooper International Competition.
Narrowed from an initial field of 24, the top six participants were invited to perform in the Recital Finals at Warner Concert Hall on Wednesday, July 24. Following deliberations, the jury revealed the three musicians who will take part in the 2013 Cooper Competition Concerto Finals. They are,
in alphabetical order: Ming Liu, Kyumin Park, and William Ching-Yi Wei, who also was honored with the $500 Audience Prize for his performance.
Fellow finalists Gallia Kastner, Jieming Tang, and Angela Wee earned fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively, in addition to a prize of $1,000 each.
The three Concerto Finalists will share the stage of Severance Hall with the Cleveland Orchestra on Friday, July 26, in an 8 p.m. performance conducted by Jahja Ling. On the line will be a first prize of $10,000; all three Concerto Finalists will be offered full scholarships to attend the Oberlin Conservatory.
In addition to the Concerto Finals, top performers from the 2013 Cooper International Competition who did not advance to the final round will take part in an Honors Concert in Warner Concert Hall at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25. The Honors Concert is free and open to the public.
Tickets for the July 26 Concerto Finals at Severance Hall start at $15 and are available at the Severance Hall Box Office or the Cleveland Orchestra website.

About the Cooper International Competition: Presented by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Orchestra, the Thomas and Evon Cooper International Competition is held each summer for musicians ages 13 to 18, and alternates annually between violin (2013) and piano (2014).
