The Studio Art division of the Art Department hosts an art walk at the end of each semester that serves as a chance for students to showcase their work in exhibit spaces around campus. This fall, with the pandemic limiting viewing opportunities, the showcase became virtual.

On any given day a walk through Tappan Square could lead to a performance, art exhibit, or even a wedding day photo shoot. On this day the park is many things for many people.

Many students added a piece of museum work to their dormitory room walls by participating in Art Rental this past weekend.

Art Rental has been an Oberlin College tradition at the Allen Memorial Art Museum since 1940. This year it continues on Saturday, September 12, with the added bonus of free rentals for the academic year.

Inks, oil pastels, watercolors, and woodblock are just some of the materials current students in Oberlin’s Art department used to create interpretive self portraits and other pieces in this art walk.

Department of Art faculty periodically share their artwork in a faculty exhibition held in Richard D. Baron ’64 Art Gallery during the academic year. This time, we invite you to step inside a virtual exhibition and experience the works of some of our talented professors.

In this photo series, we meet five Betties and the Cuban ambassador; stop by a busy woodshop; dance on stage in Finney Chapel; throw our hands in the air in the campus coffeehouse; play like a girl; and make ourselves comfortable in Afrikan Heritage House.
