Are You All In? Join Oberlin’s Annual Day of Giving
April 18, 2018

On April 26, Oberlin College is looking for 1,500 donors from the Oberlin community to go “All In” for Oberlin. For this fundraising challenge, Chris Canavan ’84 promises to match every donation with an additional $100.
After an incredibly successful All in for Oberlin in 2017, Connie Skingel is experiencing the feeling that previous achievement brings—the pressure to best it.
As director of the annual fund, Skingel hopes to make this year’s All in for Oberlin, a signature fundraising event that supports the college’s most pressing needs, even more successful than last year. But it’s no small feat to improve upon the amazing accomplishments of 2017, when nearly $600,000 was raised from close to 3,000 donors.
“One of the challenges with this year’s event is trying to improve on the incredible success we had last year,” Skingel says. “We were overwhelmed by the support we received from alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and friends of the college. We had gifts from all over the world.”
During the All In celebration on Thursday, April 26, there will be both on-campus and virtual events, including giveaways, free food, live performances, interviews with faculty, staff, and students, and a mobile trivia station, among other things. Many of the day’s events will be livestreamed.
Like the previous year, Chris Canavan ’84, chair of the Board of Trustees, will match all gifts, regardless of the amount, with $100. If the team’s goal of 1,500 donors in one day is reached, Canavan will unlock a second match.
“We’re grateful for the support of the entire Oberlin community as we have planned this event,” says Skingel. “So many faculty, staff, and students have reached out to lend their talents and knowledge for the broadcast or livestream. Mark your calendars for April 26, and get ready to go all in!”
