World-renowned pianist and pedagogue Sir András Schiff will visit Oberlin this week for a pair of unforgettable events, both of them open to the public.
Schiff will hold a guest master class with Oberlin piano students at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 11, in Warner Concert Hall. On Friday, February 12, he will present his beloved Last Sonatas program at 8 p.m. in Finney Chapel as part of the Artist Recital Series. Featured will be works by Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert.
Admission to the master class is free. Tickets for Friday’s performance are $35 ($30 for seniors, Oberlin staff, and alumni) and just $10 for all students, available by calling 800-371-0178, visiting oberlin.edu/artsguide, or by stopping by Oberlin's Central Ticket Service (67 N. Main St.) weekdays from noon-5 p.m. A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door.
For a preview of Schiff's Oberlin program and insight on his Last Sonatas, visit WQXR’s Carnegie Hall Live.
Schiff's performance marks the fourth date of the 2015-16 Artist Recital Series at Oberlin. It will be followed later this month by opera legend Marilyn Horne’s annual master classes on campus February 19 and 21. The Miró Quartet (March 10), Robin Eubanks and the Mass Line Big Band (March 13), and the Cleveland Orchestra (April 17) round out the series' 138th season.
