Oberlin College – Summer Facilities Operations Project Updates

Facilities Operations, Procurement, and Auxiliary Services

Throughout the summer, Facilities Operations has been hard at work preparing campus for the return of students, faculty, and staff. Below is a brief overview of some key projects completed or underway:

Key Summer Projects:

  • Extensive Plumbing Upgrades – Firelands
    Significant plumbing work took place to modernize infrastructure and improve reliability at Firelands. This included the replacement of sanitary lines and other critical components throughout portions of the building.

  • Campus-Wide Transformer Testing
    Electrical transformers across campus were tested to support the long-term integrity of our power grid. Work was carefully scheduled around building use to minimize disruption and ensure operational reliability.

  • Campus-Wide Generator Testing and Repairs
    Generators across campus were inspected and repaired to ensure reliability during power outages and emergencies.

  • Clarence Ward Art Library Renovation
    Renovations were completed in the Clarence Ward Art Library, enhancing functionality and providing an improved experience for students and faculty.

  • Gymnasium & Hardwood Surface Refinishing – Philips and Hales
    The gymnasium floors and other hardwood surfaces were refinished, ensuring safety, durability, and improved aesthetics for athletics and recreation.

  • Ongoing Painting Projects
    A variety of painting and refresh projects were completed across campus, including work on Union Street housing porches.

  • Updated Door Controls – Stevenson
    Door control systems at Stevenson Hall’s main entrances were upgraded to improve security and accessibility.

  • Campus Waterproofing Improvements
    Multiple areas across campus, including Rice and Hales, received waterproofing work to protect facilities and extend building life.

  • Faculty Rental Housing Repairs and Renovations
    Extensive repairs and remodels were carried out in faculty rental housing to improve quality and livability.

  • Grounds Beautification Projects
    Continued landscaping and enhancements further improved the look and feel of campus for the entire community.

  • Campus Cleaning & Preparation
    Nearly 2.5 million square feet of academic and residential spaces were cleaned and prepared to welcome back students and faculty.
