by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-George | libretto by Desfontaines-Lavallee
Based on a play by Madame de Genlis

Fenlon Lamb, guest stage director

Valcour, who is in love with long-time friend Leontine, has been sending her anonymous love letters. The widowed Leontine isn't sure she believes in love anymore. Will she change her tune?

Premiering in 1780, The Anonymous Lover is the only surviving opera by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. A pioneering Black composer, conductor, and violinist, Bologne achieved great renown throughout 18th-century France.

Proudly supported by Ideastream Public Media, official media partner of Oberlin's Artist Recital Series and Opera Theater productions.
