Join us for a lunch session with Steve Volk, Professor of History Emeritus and founding director of what is now the Lemle Center, to explore the challenges of teaching when those in power see professors as “the enemy,” confidence in higher education has dropped to an historic low, faculty are sidelined from important decisions, and colleges and universities are either strong-armed into compliance (public sector) or are quietly remodeling themselves to avoid unwanted attention (private sector). How have these changes impacted our responsibilities in the classroom? This session offers a space to reflect on these challenges and consider how to respond through our own pedagogic practices to the crisis facing higher education. Lunch will be provided.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by February 19th by e-mailing Polly Bratton, administrative assistant of the Gertrude B. Lemle Center for Teaching and Scholarship, at pbratton@oberlin.edu
