Bystander Intervention Workshop for Parents/Families
Saturday, April 17
1 to 2:30 p.m. (Eastern U.S.)
The Oberlin community shares the responsibility of creating a safe campus environment. Even when you’re not a direct participant in a potentially unsafe situation—when you’re a bystander—there’s a lot you can do to keep each other safe. Our student trainers (members of PRSM) will guide you through two scenarios where you must decide whether to intervene, and if so, what to do. You’ll learn how to identify the type of situation you’re facing and what your options are for intervening, if needed. This workshop is a modified version of the one all Oberlin students attend during their first year on campus.
Pre-registration is required by 12:55 p.m. Eastern on April 17. After you register, the workshop facilitators will email you the Zoom link.
Consent Essentials for Parents/Families
Saturday, April 17
4 to 5 p.m. (Eastern U.S.)
Join our student trainers (members of PRSM) in a workshop that explores the meaning of consent and develops skills to incorporate consent into a wide range of everyday situations, not just sex. This workshop is a modified version of one all Oberlin students attend during their first year on campus. First, we’ll explore the central components of consent, how to communicate about it, and what barriers you might encounter. We’ll then move on to support skills and address best practices for supporting someone who has experienced sexual harm. We’ll wrap up the workshop by giving a brief overview of the resources available at Oberlin.
Pre-registration is required by 3:55 p.m. Eastern on April 17. After you register, the workshop facilitators will email you the Zoom link.
