Oberlin Stage Left: Beethoven's Birthday Marathon

The Beethoven Piano Sonata Marathon

Although there is no official documentation of Beethoven’s birth, it is generally accepted that he was born in Bonn on December 16, 1770–the day before his recorded baptism. As the world celebrates this 250th anniversary, Oberlin presents a unique tribute featuring Conservatory faculty* and alums.

Beginning at 12:01 AM, December 16, join us for a marathon performance of 17 of Beethoven’s piano sonatas preceded by an introduction from Professor Peter Takács.

There is no running involved in this marathon so just pull up a chair and, perhaps, a plate of Beethoven’s favorite dish–reportedly, "Macaroni mit Parmesan-Käse"!

Broadcast available until January 4, 2021 and then available on Oberlin Stage Left On Demand

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Beethoven!
