Are you a visitor to Oberlin College? Are you faculty, staff or a student hosting a visitor?
Visitors may want to check email, surf the web, print a boarding pass, etc. Some visitors may be here as part of conferences or workshops, necessitating network access. Visitors to Oberlin College can get access to our College network, either via their own personal computers, or by logging in on a lab computer.
Network Access without Printing
If want to connect a computer or mobile device you've brought to campus but don't need to print, you don't need an account. Simply connect to the wireless network called ObieWiFi.
Network Access with Printing or Computer Lab Use
If you need to use a computer in one of Oberlin’s open-use labs or want to print, you’ll need to first get what is known as a Sponsored Account. You may obtain a Sponsored Account at the locations on campus listed below or from any faculty and staff member.
- the CIT Help Desk (Mudd Center, main floor)
- Alumni Services
- Conference Services
- Mudd Center, Circulation Desk
- Conservatory Summer Programs Office
Once you have a Sponsored Account, you can use these credentials to log in to any open-use computer on campus and can also use it to authenticate when printing. All Sponsored Accounts come preloaded with $2 of print credit (about 25 pages).
Note: Sponsored Accounts are valid for three days from the date of creation. Longer-term accounts may be created with valid requests. Visit the CIT Help Desk to extend your account or to add additional print credit.
If you experience any difficulties, contact the CIT Help Desk (775-8197, firstname.lastname@example.org). While we can’t possibly know all the details of the various computer systems out there, we will do our very best to get you connected!
In order to connect to the network, your guest does not need an account. Just direct them to connect to the network called ObieWiFi. If they need to print or use a computer lab on campus, they need a Sponsored Account . Any faculty or staff member can create a Sponsored Account; students should contact one of the offices listed above to have an account created.
Do not allow your guest to use your own, personal ObieID. You are responsible for all activity from that account.
Once you’ve issued your guest a Sponsored Account, direct your guest to the directions above for connection details.
