I was excited to come to college for a plethora of reasons, but the thought of achieving my final form made me breathless with anticipation almost every day since I sent in my confirmation of acceptance.

I'd say things are going pretty smoothly. Or, you know, as smoothly as things can go for a first-year who has no clue what she's doing with her life and who still can't get her mailbox open on the first try.

Food is what gets you through college.

So, you ask, what is this 'sacred environment' so deeply felt when one enters the wooden door entrance to the Lanes in Hales Annex? Well, let me introduce you to The Ethos of the Lanes.

This fall, we're hosting four separate virtual panels on the Oberlin student experience so you learn directly from current students what it means to be an Obie!

What does it mean to be able to locate yourself within academic work? Can you see yourself in the very spaces and fields that you learn about or is formalized learning an isolated process for you?

I had a great first week of school and it was because of all the positivity and love around me. So I got creative and wrote a post about loving the love around me and extending it further.

I didn't just bring tchotchkes back to Oberlin with me, I also brought some intangible things, new words, new experiences, and of course, lessons learned.

More importantly, I learned how to take care of myself and be comfortable being me, with all that that entails, and am ready to return to class and campus this Fall.

So I asked myself, when did I genuinely enjoy what I was doing? The answer: while studying sociology at Oberlin.
