Department Connection

The Jewish Language and Culture House (J-House) is connected to the Jewish Studies Program. It is advised by faculty advisor and chair of Jewish studies, Shari Rabin.

History

Oberlin’s Hebrew Heritage House was founded during Winter Term in 1969 by a group of students, whose efforts also led to the establishment of academic Jewish studies at Oberlin two years later. For much of its history, the Hebrew Heritage House was located within Johnson House, on South Professor Street. Renamed in 2025, it is now located in Price Hall (100 Forest Street), adjacent to the German and Spanish houses.
