Biography
I would never have predicted, growing up in Ottawa, Canada, that I would end up in a small town in Ohio. But Oberlin isn’t just any town; it’s a community composed of both Ohio natives and people from all over the country and the globe. Oberlin is a place that immediately feels like home.
While I am not an Oberlin College graduate, I am convinced that a liberal arts education,
specifically at Oberlin, is an amazing undergraduate experience and the best way to begin post-secondary education. My parents instilled in me the importance of education, teaching me that there is no wrong thing to study in school; getting an education is what is important. My educational journey started with a BMusPerf in voice at the University of Toronto. After deciding that music was not the career I wanted to pursue, I followed another passion: mental health care. This led me to a BSW at York University, and then an MSW at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After working in mental health care in the Chicago area, several moves, becoming a parent, and then becoming an American citizen, my career unfolded in unexpected ways. I spent several years working in the Oberlin Conservatory as an Administrative Assistant before having the opportunity to bring my passion and enthusiasm for Oberlin College to the Admissions Office. I am so excited to be able to share with you (both students and parents!) what makes Oberlin so special, and to assist you in this exciting time of selecting and applying to college.
