Dean of the Conservatory William Quillen has announced the launch of the Oberlin Conservatory Racial Equity and Diversity Action Plan, which was developed through months of reflection and discussion among conservatory faculty and which signals the beginning of an ongoing effort to achieve lasting change in the culture, values, and norms of Oberlin Conservatory. The plan was created in conjunction with Oberlin’s Presidential Initiative on Racial Equity and Diversity, which was announced in May this year by Oberlin College President Carmen Twillie Ambar and launched in late August.
This morning, Dean Quillen shared the conservatory’s Racial Equity and Diversity Action Plan with Oberlin College and Conservatory students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni. “This is an important document that helps frame the work of the Conservatory right now and helps light a path to the future,” Quillen noted in an introductory message. “This is an important step for the Conservatory.”
